Twitter Previews New “Official” Grey Verification Checkmarks as it Prepares to Launch its $8 Verification Plan

Twitter has announced a new $8 per month verification plan that allows any user to purchase the prestigious blue tick mark for their accounts. On the eve of the launch of this plan, Twitter recognized that there is a need for providing official markers for certain accounts so that they can prevent potential fraud from happening.

However, instead of revising the 8-dollar checkmark scheme, the company have come up with an alternative plan, which is providing a new indicator that marks an ‘official’ identity for selected accounts.

As a part of this initiative, some accounts will receive a brand new grey tick mark that appears beneath their username, as a sign that marks the account as an official account. It is a feature that is similar to the blue checkmark, however, will be offered, only to those whom Twitter’s new administration considers worthy of this official’ recognition. This includes government accounts, business partners, commercial enterprises, major media outlets, publishers and certain public figures.

Elon Musk has decided not to include journalists in this list, he has a perspective on journalists not credible as anyone else to receive official recognition. So now, he’ll be able to revoke their verification standing, in his personal way.

Regarding the blue checkmark scheme, Twitter confirmed that ID verification will not be part of the new $ 8-per-month plan.

Additionally, the company has also made it clear that not all previously verified accounts will receive the ‘Official’ label and this label will not be available for purchase.
